Wooing continues for Amazon elsewhere but LIC is moving on

According to James Patchett, president and CEO of the city?s Economic Development Corporation, the land allotted for Amazon will become a mix of small business and affordable homes for low income families.

It was the original plan before Amazon was offered at Long Island City. More than 1,000 residential units will proceed as per the city's affordable housing plan with almost half will be for low income families.

The area will also add manufacturing units for union jobs that pays around $40,000 per year.

A new middle school for over 500 students will be also setup with a public park and a cultural center.

Meanwhile, the wooing of Amazon continues with presidential candidate Corey Booker wanting them in Newark, Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, Carlos Gimnez in Miami, Rahm Emanuel in Chicago and slew of politicians for upstate New York. Amazon has not responded.
