Runaways from group homes in Nassau County is increasing

More and more teens are actually running away from group homes, shelters and halfway locations in Nassau County and the number is increasing.

The Dept of Social Services reported search for missing teens has the budget also increased. According to law enforcement officials, the teens are running away due to abuse primarily sexual and assaults inside the locations.

The average cost for search is between $25K to $50K for resources including use of police chopper.
