UPDATE State Police seek publics assistance locating missing clay man

The New York State Police are providing an update regarding the search for Alexander J. Thornton, 33, of Clay, who was reported as a missing vulnerable adult on September 7, 2025.

On September 22, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., State Police were notified of a vehicle located off Interstate 81 southbound in the town of Richland, Oswego County. The vehicle appeared to have crashed in a wooded area.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2008 black BMW M6, operated by Mr. Thornton, exited the roadway into the median, struck a ditch, then continued into a wooded area where it struck a tree. Mr. Thornton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

 Mr. Thornton had previously been reported missing and was believed to be operating the same vehicle involved in the crash.
