State Police and NYSDOCCS investigate a criminal possession of a weapon incident

On April 29, 2025, State Police arrested Brian Brown, age 45, from Dannemora, NY, for criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree (two counts) and for knowingly making or possessing dangerous contraband in the prison (two counts).

The arrest followed an incident that occurred on April 14, 2025, at approximately 9:49 a.m., when Troopers responded to the Clinton County Correctional Facility on Cook Street in Dannemora. An investigation revealed that on March 4, 2024, at around 7:15 a.m., two incarcerated individuals were involved in a physical altercation. During the confrontation, Brown swung a shirt containing a rock at the victim, striking the victim in the head.

Correctional Officers intervened to stop the altercation and conducted a pat frisk of Brown, during which they found a sharpened toothbrush. The officers secured the shirt with the rock and the toothbrush as evidence.

Following the investigation conducted by the correctional facility and the State Police, the Clinton County Court issued an arrest warrant for Brown. He was processed at SP Plattsburgh, arraigned in Clinton County Court, and then returned to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
