Poughkeepsie man arrested following incident at Anderson center for Autism

On August 19, 2026, the New York State Police in Rhinebeck responded to the Anderson Center for Autism, located in the Town of Hyde Park, following a report of an incident involving a staff member and a resident.

It was reported that a staff member, identified as Rojae Omario Rhone, 21, of Poughkeepsie, New York, placed a 21-year-old resident, who was under his care, in a chokehold.

As a result of the investigation, Rhone was arrested on August 24, 2026, and charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree, a class E felony, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, a class A misdemeanor.

Rhone was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Hyde Park Court on September 2, 2026.
