Otsego man arrested after grand jury indictment

On June 16, 2025, New York State Police arrested Frank Kovacs, age 61 of Laurens, NY after an Otsego County grand jury indictment.  Kovacs has been charged with two counts of Rape in the first degree, a class “B” felony and three counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree, a class “B” felony.  Kovacs is currently serving as the Mayor of the Village of Laurens in Otsego County. 

An investigation began in December of 2024 when a victim reported that over a decade ago, they had been sexually assaulted by Kovacs for several years, in multiple locations by means of forcible compulsion, intimidation and coercion when the victim was a teenager.
