Massapequa community of animal lovers came to rescue abandoned cats

On Tuesday, a call came in for abandoned cats in crates at the local Massapequa park near the Southern State Parkway Exit 31 in Nassau County. According to a John Debacker who is well known in NY for cat rescue, 30 cats were found at the location.

Volunteers, police and rescue groups came to the scene and helped recover all cats to a safer place. All cats are safe and are now being cared for well.

The cats are not up for adoption at the moment since the Nassau County DA stated they are part of the evidence collection.

After that, they will be up for adoption.

This morning a press conference was held at the local Oyster Bay animal shelter and there was a huge surprise.

After the press statement, a man identified as Thomas came forward claiming as the owner of the cats as per NCPD.

The DA stated due to ongoing investigation of another case not related to cats, the man is not allowed back in his home so he had to find a spot near the wooded area while feeding them and moving them around for safety while finding them good homes. The case is related to a domestic according to a witness at the press release.

As for the charges, the DA will announce in the coming weeks if there is any.

The investigation is ongoing.
