IRS to cancel passports for not paying back taxes starts in March

The tax code 7345 which was passed by Congress and signed by then president Obama in 2015 will cancel passports of US citizens if $50,000 or more is owed in back taxes.

From 2016 to 2017, the guideline was being put together and it was enforced for 2018 for 2017 delinquents.

The purpose is to enforce people to pay back taxes instead of taking vacations or going out of the country on a business trip. The IRS will forward a list of people to the State Department which will then decide whether to issue or renew a passport.

For 2019, the enforcement will start for people not paid taxes in 2017. Few who are unable to return were allowed after agreement to pay back in installments which was agreed without disruptions. Some decided not to come back and don't mind their citizenship cancelled.
