Hands down Red Cross got the love from NYC

After an influx of migrants from the border landed in NYC from Texas, the number is now 11,000 and the Red Cross is leading the path to shelter the most. Of 11,000, 8,000 are in shelters.

Despite the breaking point with NYC’s own homeless population, the Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless have filed lawsuits with the city to open more shelters. The current budget for the NYC homeless is $2.3 billion dollars which increased to $3.2 under Adam’s first year is expected to increase to $5 billion due to migrants from the border. However many nonprofits predict the budget will increase to $10 billion allocating the most for salaries and expenses. That’s $43,750 per year per homeless person, 50% more than it spends on each child in public schools. Not counting over 100,000 kids homeless in the city.

Another large group of nonprofits are also demanding funds to work to add more shelters including hotels after the Mayor’s Office stated the city has reached the near breaking point. With the latest ‘Right to Shelter’ violation, the Mayor said the city should reassess how it handles shelter requests.
