Family of murdered New York girl 17 desperate for answers after mysterious Queens shooting

The family of a teenage girl fatally shot in the head in an affluent New York City neighborhood is desperate for answers about her death.

Deaza Barkley, 17, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head at a house in Holliswood, Queens, around 5 p.m. Saturday (February 15). She was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but was pronounced dead a short while later.

One male was pictured being led away from the house in handcuffs. Police said a 16-year-old boy has now been charged with manslaughter, criminal possession of a firearm, and multiple weapons charges.

Not much is known about the murder, a possible motive, or why Deaza was at the address, which was not her home, prompting family and friends to demand answers.

She has an older sister, and she also has a younger brother. I’m confused, and I’m just trying to find out what happened.”

A vigil is planned to take place near Deaza’s home this evening. Cops stressed the incident remains under investigation.
