Determine to be the cause of brush fire in Queens

The FDNY reported two brush fires in Queens today.

The latest incident was on the Jackie Robinson Parkway near the Forest Drive Park around 5pm.

Earlier, another one reported on the Cross Island Parkway around 12pm near Bell Blvd Exit.

Last week there was a brush fire on the Clearview Expressway near the Long Island Expressway.

The fire marshal has not responded to what the cause yet despite the mild warm weather.

Meanwhile, local residents in Bayside have complained of illegal camps now and then in the vicinity of the Clearview Expressway and 73rd Avenue in Bayside.

This is from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation,

Wildfires commonly occur in the spring during dry and windy conditions, and open burning is the single greatest cause of wildfires in NYS. A statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. Brush, limbs, and branches cannot be burned openly. Backyard fire pits, small cooking fires, and small campfires are still okay, but can never be left unattended.
