Detective killed in the line of duty went to work despite had day off

NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen who died in a friendly fire after investigation had the day off but he went to work anyway to continue with the case of several robberies in Richmond Hill.

Simonsen and Sergent Matthew Gorman was nearby the T-Mobile store working on a case when they received a call of the robbery.

When they arrived along with patrol officers, they saw the suspect leaving from the back of the store. That's when the suspect pointed gun at them and shooting erupted.

The suspect after being shot multiple times barricaded himself inside the store.

After the shooting, police confirmed the suspect had a replica gun. Simonesen was shot in the chest during the friendly fire and later died at Jamaica Hospital.

NYPD stated 42 shots were fired by 7 officers in 11 seconds in the "friendly fire".
