Two down improving odds for Flushing casino

Poor Revered Al lost his dream of having a civil rights museum in Times Square which would have cost $15 million.

Today, NYC’s advisory committee just shot down $5.4 billion Roc Nation, Caesars, SL Green and Live Nation’s casino proposal, saying Broadway’s culture and jobs come first.

The other one is Rush Street's Avenir.

The proposed Times Square casino would have provided NYC with $250M in community benefits, 4,000 permanent jobs, 3,000 construction jobs, $7 billion in tax revenue, and $26.7 billion in economic impact over 30 years, per developers' estimates.

Now there are 6 on the line for the casino license, with two almost guaranteed for the expansion of Empire Casino in Yonkers and Resorts Casino in South Ozone Park. This leaves with just 3 potential hopefuls for that one license. The odd to Flushing is improving as Coney Island is not fully endorsed by the NYC Council majority.

The other one is Freedom Plaza near the United Nations tops $11 billion project.

The next update is September 25, when Empire Casino will face the vote for approval. A date for the Flushing casino is in the works for approval by the NYC Advisory Committee, which is expected to bring over 10,000 union jobs and $2 billion tax for the city.

Remember the deadline is September 30 for local committee votes on all casino proposals before moving forward to the state when the final decision will be made before year-end.

The real face-off is between Flushing and Freedom Plaza.
