Two arrested for numerous felonies following traffic stop in Binghamton

On April 13, 2026, members of the Troop “C” Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) arrested two individuals linked to the larceny of a firearm, ammunition for the firearm and blank checks stolen from a residence in Chenango County.

Both individuals have been charged with numerous felonies:

Kevin A. Wright III, 22 of Binghamton

Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class “C” felony

Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, a class “E” felony

Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, a class “E” felony

An 18-year-old female from Smithville Flats

Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class “C” felony

27 counts of Forgery in the 2nd degree, a class “D” felony

5 counts of Possession of Forged Instrument in the 2nd degree, a class “D” felony

Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, a class “E” felony

Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, a class “E” felony

In February, Troopers responded to a residence in Smithville Flats after fraudulent charges were made using a victim’s account.  The victim discovered a check book, a revolver and ammunition for the revolver were missing.

An Investigator from SP Sidney discovered that 27 checks were fraudulently signed and numerous transactions were made using a credit/debit card.  The total charges were just under $14,000.  The Investigator determined that the two used the vulnerability of older adults who were known to the female to steal the items.

Wright III and the 18-year-old female were observed by members of CSU in a Toyota Rav 4 in the city of Binghamton.  Troopers observed vehicle and traffic infractions and initiated a traffic stop on Gaines Avenue.

Wright III was found to be wanted on an active arrest warrant with another police agency.

The 18-year-old female was found to be in possession of five forged checks from the victim.

Troopers located the loaded revolver within the vehicle that was also stolen from the victim.

Wright and the 18-year-old female were processed at SP Endwell then transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

The New York State Police urge anyone who suspects elder abuse, neglect, or the financial exploitation of an older adult to report it.  These incidents are often underreported or unnoticed, and timely intervention can help prevent further harm.
