Troop F community stabilization unit arrest schenectady man on multiple felony charges after thruway pursuit

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 6:53 p.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit observed a 2026 Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the Town of Plattekill. The vehicle was observed committing multiple violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to comply, resulting in a pursuit. The pursuit lasted approximately 22 miles and reached speeds of up to 115 miles per hour. The pursuit ended after a successful tire deflation deployment disabled the vehicle.

The driver later identified Shariff A. Frasier, age 32, of Schenectady, NY, fled on foot after the vehicle was stopped. He was apprehended shortly after on Sawkill Road in the Town of Ulster. The 29-year-old female passenger was detained at the scene but was later released.

During the investigation, K9 Kell located a backpack belonging to Frasier in a wooded area near Sawkill Road. The contents of the backpack were found to contain approximately 1 kilogram of cocaine. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately $3,000 in U.S. currency.

Frasier was arrested and transported to the State Police Kingston barracks for processing. He was charged with the following offenses:

·         Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, class A-1 felony

·         Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Intent to Sell, class B felony

·         Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, class D felony

·         Resisting Arrest, class A misdemeanor

·         Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, class A misdemeanor

·         Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, class A misdemeanor

·         Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Unclassified misdemeanor

·         Multiple Unform Traffic Tickets

Frasier was arraigned at the Ulster County Central Arraignment Part and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail. He is currently awaiting a future court date.
