Thefts by promise is the new wave of crime in Queens

Police reported thefts by promise increased to all time high in Queens. Most of the victims were seniors and the sick who are unable to get their medicine or groceries. The crooks would advertise stating they can pick up groceries, pharmacies and etc by paying up front. Then disappears with the money. One precinct in northeast Queens reported a spike in over 500 such incidents. Police are advising all to depend on people they know or use stores that does deliver in time of coronavirus. One group of police stated there will never be an investigation unless the amount add up to $1,000 or above per person or assault occurred. There were several incidents involving credit card theft and purchases elsewhere.
