State Police investigate a burglary complaint in Crown Point

On April 29, 2026, New York State Police arrested James P. Backus, age 31, of Port Henry, for Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree (reckless property damage greater than $250).

On April 25, 2026, at approximately 8:09 p.m., troopers responded to Lapeter Way in the Town of Crown Point for a report of a stolen motorcycle. An investigation determined that Backus unlawfully entered a locked and secured residence and stole a blue 2004 Chappy motorcycle. While in possession of the motorcycle, Backus caused significant damage to the property.

Backus was transported to State Police Schroon Lake for processing.
