Schedule changed so wait longer for the VWE

In 1948, a great fanfare occurred introducing the Van Wyck Expressway connecting from the Flushing Meadows Corona Park to the JFK airport.

It's a 9.3 mile highway under the official name, US Interstate 678.

Since then the expressway has been under construction with this and that changes there and here.

According to the NYS Dept of Transportation in cooperation with the Port Authority that oversees the $19 billion airport renovations, the plan to complete Phase 3 by this summer has been delayed to next spring. Be patient for now.

So far the project costs $1.22 billion and more taxpayer funds will be added to complete the section around the airport. As for the vicinity of the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, around $200 million has been spent to complete major redevelopments in 2024 which will last 40 years.

The Port Authority is advising all to use public transportation to Archer Avenue and then use AirTrain to the airport instead of vehicles. The other option is to use ride share apps with others.

Terminal routes are changed from time to time for construction updates.
