Police busted South Ozone Park homicide suspect

Police busted Kareem Flake after a massive search narrowed to Florida on Friday, April 8. On November 3, 20202, Destini Smothers was found murdered in Queens. The 26 year old female was also last found on the same day after celebrating her birthday with Flake at a local bowling alley in South Ozone Park. Her dead body was found stuffed inside a car trunk. After celebrating the birthday, it took four months to find her decomposing body inside the car trunk. A neighbor complained of a vehicle with a foul smell. A local tow truck opened the truck and discovered the body. The city’s medical examiner reported she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Her mother told police she went to Queens to attend her grandmother’s funeral even though she was distant from Flake. During the course of investigation Flake told police he was arguing with Smothers on the Grand Central Parkway and then she took off from the vehicle after the celebration. That was the last time he saw her as told to police. Smothers and Flake have two sons. Flake was nabbed in Kissimmee, Florida and will be extradited to Queens. Charges will be filed then.
