One building to close at Rikers Island this summer

NYC Dept of Corrections reported one building of nine will be closed this summer as part of Rikers Island shut down process. It was announced on January 2. This is part of Mayor di Blasio plan to close Rikers Island and open small community based facilities around NYC to serve people in custody and correction workers. The location has been identified as the George Motchan Detention Center that houses around 600 convicts. Although union called the plan disaster and reckless, Mayor di Blasio is going forth with it.
