Omar Perez suspect in deadly Halloween shooting near CU Boulder arrested

Omar Perez, 18, has been taken into custody by Boulder authorities in connection with a Halloween party shooting close to the University of Colorado Boulder that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old student and serious injuries to another.

At 8 a.m., Perez was detained. Per CBS News on Monday. He is accused of assault, attempted first-degree murder. As of Monday afternoon, he was being kept without bond.

Police stated that additional individuals may be charged as the inquiry goes on. Perez, who is from Thornton, does not attend the University of Colorado.

Reports of gunfire were made to the police at roughly 11:28 p.m. Two 19-year-old guys were discovered with gunshot wounds on Saturday. Both were hospitalized. One died on Sunday morning, and the other is still in critical condition.

This was not the initial occasion that night that police had been summoned to the residence. At the home, police had previously answered a noise complaint regarding a massive gathering. For throwing a nuisance party, they questioned the tenants and issued citations.

Following police intervention, the celebration came to an end, with hundreds of people departing the area. However, a small number of people stayed in the home.

Investigators suspect that a group of individuals attempted to break into the house afterwards. A brawl ensued inside, and the two victims were shot. The suspects then ran away.

Chief Steve Redfearn stated that the shooting was Boulder's first murder of 2026.

Redfearn stated in a statement, "Everyone in our community deserves to feel safe, and while I hope this arrest restores some degree of safety, I know it will never bring back the life of this young man or undo all the trauma victims have gone through."
