Lindenhurst man sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for DWI crash that killed AHRC Nassau worker

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Lindenhurst man was sentenced today to up to 15 years in prison for a drunk driving crash in September 2025 that killed a man returning home from working at AHRC Nassau in Freeport.

Bryan Mizhirumbay, 24, pleaded guilty on August 12, 2026, before Judge Caryn Fink to Aggravated Vehicular Homicide (a B felony); Manslaughter in the Second Degree (a C felony); Assault in the Second Degree (a D violent felony); and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Per Se (an unclassified misdemeanor).

The defendant was sentenced today to 7 to 15 years in prison. NCDA recommended a sentence of 7 to 18 years in prison.

“Craig White was a devoted father, friend, and beloved member of the AHRC Nassau community. His life was violently stolen because of the selfish and reckless decisions of this defendant,” said DA Donnelly. “Mizhirumbay struck Craig’s car so hard that the impact actually pushed Craig’s driver seat into the passenger side of the vehicle. That tragic moment created a ripple of grief and pain for all those who loved Craig, including his recently engaged daughter, who will now sadly walk down the aisle without her father by her side. Memories missed because of this defendant’s actions. We continue to keep Craig’s family, friends, and colleagues in our thoughts as this defendant begins serving his prison sentence.”

DA Donnelly said that, on September 3, 2025, at approximately 11:07 p.m., 55-year-old Craig White was driving home from work at AHRC Nassau in Freeport northbound on S. Long Beach Avenue through the intersection with Atlantic Avenue in Freeport.

The defendant was driving eastbound on Atlantic Avenue. As Mizhirumbay approached the intersection with S. Long Beach Avenue, he was travelling at an excessive rate of speed, as high as 106 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

Mizhirumbay failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and slammed into the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle.

The force of the impact drove both vehicles northeast across the intersection and westbound lanes of Atlantic Avenue.

The victim’s vehicle crashed through a fence on the property of Atlantic Nursery and the defendant’s vehicle came to rest on the westbound shoulder, where it became engulfed in flames.

White was discovered unconscious and trapped in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which had been pushed into the passenger compartment due to the impact of the crash.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The defendant was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.

Blood drawn from the defendant at the hospital revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was .18% approximately one hour after the crash.

A review of the defendant’s vehicle event data recorder uncovered that the defendant was driving at approximately 106 miles per hour three seconds before the crash.

The defendant collided with the victim’s vehicle at approximately 90 miles per hour with intermittent braking before impact.

Mizhirumbay surrendered on January 20, 2026, to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad.
