No phones allowed in schools to start on September

Ok first $13.5 million taxpayer funds will be set aside as part of the NYS budget where each school can have their own method of storage rack spaces putting away student phones in classrooms. The Governor announced in a press release as part of the More Learning, Less Scrolling: Creating Distraction-Free Schools program today.

This is for public and charter schools only from kindergarten to 12th grade for the entire NY state including NYC. At the same time, a guideline will be outlined how students can reach out to parents in an event of emergency.

The company that provided the installation has not been announced but work will start this summer for all schools once the desired setup is submitted by the administrator in cooperation with teachers.

New York State ranks 15th in overall education based on a 2025 ranking while Massachusetts is the first which is not pleasing for the Governor.

One company, Yondr is already established with the similar method in schools where used nationwide.
