New York State Police investigating fatal stabbing in Broome county

The New York State Police is investigating a fatal incident that occurred late last night at a residence located at 1086 Castle Creek Road in the Town of Chenango, Broome County.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on August 7, 2025, Troopers responded to the residence for a report of a stabbing. Initial investigation revealed that 50-year-old Harry Swan, of Chenango, was involved in a physical altercation with 48-year-old Jeffrey Ryan, of Binghamton.

Preliminary information indicates that Mr. Ryan drove to the Swan residence, where a confrontation ensued outside the home. Mr. Ryan allegedly stabbed Mr. Swan during the altercation. Mr. Swan then retreated into the residence, retrieved a knife, and stabbed Mr. Ryan. Mr. Swan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Ryan was transported to Wilson Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
