On August 26, 2026, State Police assigned to Troop T, SP Schuyler arrested Jonathan J. Manigault, 40, of New York City, on multiple charges after a pursuit along the New York State Thruway.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on August 26, troopers observed a 2001 Ford Mercury sedan traveling eastbound on the Thruway (I-90) in the town of Schuyler displaying an obstructed paper license plate, and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to comply, accelerating to approximately 100 mph before exiting the Thruway at Exit 30 and entering the village of Herkimer. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes, covering a distance of eight miles and ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a metal post and struck a residence. The operator, subsequently identified as Manigault, fled on foot into a wooded area, and was ultimately taken into custody a short time later.

During the investigation, troopers located approximately 800 grams of cannabis in the vehicle and determined that the paper license plate was stolen.

Manigault was charged with the following:

Reckless endangerment, 2nd degree

Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, 3rd degree

Criminal possession of cannabis, 3rd degree

Criminal possession of stolen property, 5th degree

Vehicle and traffic law violations

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Manigault was processed at SP Schuyler and is due in Herkimer Town Court on September 15.
