Move over bike spots now comes side load garbage pick ups

The NYC Dept of Transportation has launched side load pick ups from containers placed by parking spots for the new garbage trucks coming out in the city. This will remove parking spots around the city including Queens mainly aimed toward large apartment and commercial buildings. The pilot program is launching in West Harlem. The new truck will pick up the large container from the side using mechanical arms and TA-DA. Then drop the large container back to the parking spots all empty.

The city removed 8,550 for outdoor dining sheds, bike stations, delivery hubs and other programs which make up 1% overall.

Although there is no data available for each borough and many speculate Manhattan has lost over 50% parking spots easily.

If this program is successful, then around 3,500 spots are allocated around the city. This came after loads of black trash bags were placed on the sidewalks for pickups after rooms ran out for city assigned containers with spaces after the sidewalk didn't have flexibility for pedestrians.

The NYC sanitation dept is on a roll with more programs and enforcements to make the city a clean place for all.
