Mess at Rikers Island growing

Today, another 28 inmates were released from Rikers Island. 114 inmates released altogether were busted again for crimes and released again. The crimes range from burglaries to felony assaults. Today, correction officers reported inmates were spitting at them. The Queens Supreme Court ordered all correction officers will have free testing at Northwell Health Urgent Care Centers following the order. The Bronx Supreme Court blocked the plan to release hard core criminals from homicide to rape cases. NYC Council members from selected locations want Rikers Island to be closed and have the inmates serve their time at the local hotels with security in place. However, over 50% detainees have been exposed to the virus. So far, Rikers Island reported 287 positive cases of the coronavirus. The mayor's office reported another 2,500 likely exposed but asymptomatic.
