Manhattan man indicted for stabbing bus riderin eye and neck with pen charged with attempted murder assault and more

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced today that a Queens County grand jury has indicted Angie Cordero Rosario for attempted murder, assault and other crimes for attacking a bus passenger with a pen in May.

District Attorney Katz said: “Public transportation must be safe for New York City to thrive and when it is not, those who endanger the safety of New Yorkers must be held accountable. As alleged, this defendant acted erratically on a New York City bus and aggressively stomped on the foot of a female passenger. When a second passenger stood up to the defendant, he turned a pen into a weapon and repeatedly stabbed the 59-year-old man in the eye and neck.”

Cordero Rosario, 29, of Second Avenue in Manhattan, is charged in a five-count indictment with attempted murder in the second degree, three counts of assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. The defendant was arraigned today before Acting Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Gaffey who set Rosario’s next court date for July 24. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

According to the charges, both the defendant and the victim were passengers on the Q9 MTA bus as it headed southwest on Liberty Avenue at approximately 4:50 p.m. on May 23, 2025. Cordero Rosario stood in front of the victim, a 59-year-old male Queens resident and Army veteran, who was seated. The defendant then began acting erratically and intentionally stepped on the foot of a female passenger as she stood to exit as the bus stopped.

The victim asked Cordero Rosario why he stepped on the woman’s foot, and then the defendant allegedly took a pen from his pocket and shoved it into the man’s neck, knocking the victim backwards. Cordero Rosario allegedly continued the attack by plunging the pen into the man’s right eye while saying “I’ll kill you.”

The defendant ran from the bus after the alleged assault and was chased by two other passengers who flagged down a nearby police officer, who arrested Cordero Rosario.

The victim was treated at a nearby hospital where it was discovered that he had small, metal object lodged behind his right eye. The victim is continuing to receive treatment to determine if surgery is necessary and he may lose sight in the eye.

The investigation was conducted by NYPD Officer Christopher DaSilva of the 103rd Precinct and Detective Tyler Stavis of the 103rd Precinct Detective Squad.
