Man arrested for possessing forged barcodes at canandaigua Walmart

On October 27, 2026, at approximately 12:11 p.m., New York State Police from SP Canandaigua responded to Walmart on Recreation Drive in the town of Canandaigua for a reported larceny.

An investigation determined that Donald L. Colunio, age 72, of Canandaigua, allegedly switched barcodes on merchandise and scanned the items at self-checkout register to pay a lower price. During the investigation, troopers discovered six laminated barcodes attached to a small metal object in Colunio’s possession.

Colunio was arrested and charged with:

- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree (D felony)

- Forgery 2nd degree (D felony)

- Petit Larceny (A misdemeanor)
