Jamaica Avenue has Q54 sharp eyed buses

Remember the name, Q54 and it's the public bus on Jamaica Avenue will now have cameras installed to enforce drivers violating bus lanes. The cameras are installed on the bus and it will capture license plates of violators parked on the red colored lane, blocking from bus stops, etc. This is enforced by the Dept of Transportation and the fines are from $50 to $250 for repeated offenders. Starting today, there will be a 60 days pilot program with warning notices mailed out to violators.

This includes the busy route between Parsons Blvd and 168 Street.

As of today, there are 632 public buses with cameras in the city including Queens.

This is from the DOT Commissioner,

“Unless you are a bus operator, you shouldn’t be driving, standing, or parking in our bus lanes. These new bus-mounted cameras will make service faster and more reliable for thousands of daily riders."

Coming soon to Northern Blvd and Sutphin Blvd.
