Fire at a home in Herricks with one dead

Firefighters reported fire at 252 Lafayette Street in Herricks. The fire started around 3am in Nassau County. 8 people were transported to local hospitals. EMS confirmed one dead.

Power was shut down in the area to bring the fire under control by 4:30am.

Also, one in critical condition.

The fire started in the basement and extended throughout the home. The home is heavily damaged.

Firefighters are working to determine what caused the fire.
