Feasibility done with three options from BK to QN

MTA has finalized the feasibility study for the new route from Brooklyn to Queens with either light rail, heavy rail, or bus rapid transit for the new project, Interboro Express. This is the new 14 mile route connecting Bensonhurst to Jackson Heights. This is at the pre existing freight rail already in place from Brooklyn to Queens. The MTA is now conducting an environmental scope. The NY Governor prefers light rail but the final decision will be decided in the coming months or next year after inputs from the community to local non-profit firms. A $10 million feasibility study has been alloted for light rail as the main choice.

The light rail project is estimated to cost $5.5 billion on construction cost alone for the 39 minutes runtime, with 19 stations, attracting 115,000 daily riders.

More public transportation is in the work after the Governor announced affordable housing to be allowed overriding all local zones including Long Island as part of the State of the State address yesterday. The proposals to remove local control from municipalitie is already facing backlash in Long Island and Queens.
