Do not disturb due to break in sleep

More vehicle glass break-ins reported in the northeast section of Queens from Glen Oaks to Bayside. Police reported glasses were broken into mainly on Union Turnpike, 73rd Avenue by the Clearview Expressway and Little Neck Parkway to the public parks.

Most people whose vehicles were broken into didn't have anything missing so wondered why only to know people were sleeping inside after breaking the glass. The shelters and hotels are overcrowded and the Mayor is seeking federal fund to add more rooms around the city to house the homeless and the undocumented.

According to the Mayor's Office, there is no law against sleeping in your own car as long as it's legally parked in designated areas at your own risk. However if an intruder is caught sleeping inside the car, license, registration and insurance must be presented or hauled to the local precinct pending charges with desk appearance tickets. The same for homeless camps as long as it's not blocking routes causing nuisance and time slots assigned. One example is Alley Pond Park that closes at 9pm without exceptions.
