Dead body found in Hempstead has NYPD joined the investigation

On Monday morning, a dead body was found on Lido Beach, Nassau County. ESU recovered the body and the medical examiner transported it to conduct an autopsy.

Police say this was possibly a suicide incident of an NYPD retired officer matching the description awaiting confirmation.

From the Governor's office, for the year 2025, there were more than 20 police officers suicides compared to 13 for the year 2024.

Six officers died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds this year alone. The Governor has allocated $13 million for mental health support for police officers statewide.

The investigation continues.
