Basement fire in Hempstead with fatalities

The NCPD reported a basement fire in Hempstead where a father, son and their family dog died. The incident was reported this morning around 4am on Albermarle Avenue residence in south Nassau County. The fire marshal said over ten tenants were displaced and the Red Cross worked to find them shelters. The medical examiners transported the bodies to conduct autopsies of the father and child. The Village of Hempstead is working with the building department on the cause of fire and the report of sub divisions whether it's illegal or not.

Local neighbors say the father who died took care of the son who was autistic and worked hard to provide a better life.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
