Basement rooftop and sheds to add under Mayor de Blasio s affordable housing plan

The mayor's office reported of affordable housing can also apply to single homeowners with basements, attic and land for sheds for tenants. In order for the city's building department to deem habitable, the requirements are sprinkler system, ventilation and at least one window. For attics and sheds, two ways to exit is mandatory. Under the affordable housing rule, the rent must be 30% of the tenant's income. Also, the city will add $150 million for capital loans for homeowners to meet the code. If the homeowner doesn't pay the loan, then lien will be attached and further sell the property in auction. However, the plan is still two years away and City Council must approve to make it law.
