Affordable housing to replace shopping malls at Willets Pointt

Mayor di Blasio reported on Tuesday of his new plan to have affordable housing at Willets Point instead of shopping malls. The ground breaking will start in 2020. More than 1,000 units will be available for families with certain income brackets along with elementary school. The owner will be NYC Housing Preservation Development. The 1,100 low and moderate income families apartments will be developed by Related Cos and Saul Katz and Fred Wilpon, both owners of NY Mets. The city also paid around $300 million to payout businesses for relocation to other services including cleanups
