Abolishing ICE in NYC goes for the vote

The NYC Council Immigration Committee voted in favor of abolishing US Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) by 4 to 3. It was a close call and the vote was recorded today. The next step is resolution to pass in the entire NYC Council for vote. If passed, the mayor is expected to sign it to become law. Once it becomes law, ICE cannot operate in NYC as a protected barrier for illegal immigrants between Nassau County and upstate NY. However, ICE can appeal the law in federal court for enforcement.
