A victim died of injuries after a commercial fire in Flushing

The FDNY issued a press statement today of a fatal fire in Flushing which occurred on July 4th around 3pm. The fire broke out from a local pizzeria on Kissena Blvd and 46th Avenue. EMS transported a female victim, 76, who was found in the bathroom and today the fire marshal confirmed she died which was a result of a lithium ion battery.

This marks the first death from a lithium iron battery in NYC for this year. Last year there were six and the year before over 20.

As for the fires, there were 122 battery related incidents according to FDNY in NYC alone including injuries.

The investigation continues.
