14 people displaced after home fire in Hicksville

The Arson Bomb Squad reported a house fire in Hicksville on November 4 around 8pm in Hicksville.

The NCPD responded to a house fire that started in the rear yard and spread to the exterior of the home, located at 25 W Cherry Street. Officers were able to evacuate all 14 residents to safety without injuries.

The Hicksville Fire Department extinguished the flames. All residents were evaluated by Hicksville EMS at the scene.

Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives, Nassau County Fire Marshals, and the Town of Oyster Bay Building Inspector responded to the scene. Town of Oyster Bay Building Inspector determined that there were illegal apartments inside the home and multiple summons’ were issued. The Nassau County Fire Marshall determined that the building was not safe and The Red Cross also responded to provide temporary housing to the displaced residents.

Detectives have determined that the fire was not suspicious.

This is the second fire in Long Island that displaced residents. Last week, a fire in Freeport due to unattended candle displaced over 30 residents to shelters.
