77 million dollars and four years later evictions in NYC are down

In 2017, NYC rolled out Right to Council law which allows free lawyers for low income residents in 15 zip codes.

The funding cost $77 million dollars for lawyers to represent low income tenants in court. NYC reported of evictions in those 15 zip codes are down by 27% after 56% had free lawyers.

By 2022, the city will expand and expect to have it for all NYC zip codes with additional funding.

A new law from Right to Council is underway to set the income at $48,000 a year per single tenant to be qualified.
