5 8 billion unemployment benefits paid out in NYS

The NYS Dept of Labor reported $5.8 billion in unemployment benefits paid out to $1.5 million qualified applicants since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 470,000 applicants have not completed their one or more weekly certifications required by Federal law before payments of $480 million are released. Also, a new streamlined website, labor.ny.gov/signin is launching soon as the state hired over 3,000 staff. For those unable to access the website can call 1-888-581-5812 (for traditional unemployment insurance) or 1-833-324-0366 (for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance).
