West Hempstead shooting suspect remanded

The Nassau County DA's office reported the alleged West Hempstead shooting suspect, Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, 31 is remanded and will not have bail. The incident sparked Nassau County yesterday with location lockdown. Over 100 people are traumatized by the event while being inside the Stop and Shop supermarket in West Hempstead. The store manager identified as Ray Wishropp, 49 died inside the office. According to the press statement by the NCPD, stated that Wilson was a troubled employee and made unwanted advances toward a female co-worker. He also had disputes with coworkers and some complained he was threatening. His job was to collect carts from the parking lot. He asked for a transfer to another Stop and Shop while being in the management office. Then he returned about 40 minutes later and opened fire. A male and female inside the office also was shot and in stable condition after firing 7 times with 5 people inside. He was arrested shortly at a residence on Terrace Avenue not far from the supermarket. The gun has not been recovered. He had priors for assault, attempt to distribute narcotics, attempted murder and possession of a firearm. Also, the subject of two mental health crisis calls all reported by the police. The DA stated he has been charged with 2nd degree murder and four counts of attempted murder. His next court date is Friday after arraignment today.
