Vigil held for 5 year old girl found dead in Queens

The South Richmond Hill community gathered Tuesday night to show their sorrow following the passing of 5-year-old Fabiana Cabello last week.

To commemorate Fabiana, neighbors and relatives gathered outside the house where the tragedy occurred almost a week after her burial.

Kuldeep Singh, Fabiana's father, stated that she was "totally broken." "She's my princess. The first thing she would say to me anytime she called was, 'I love you, papa.'"

At the vigil, many people also expressed their support for Francis Cabello, Fabiana's 32-year-old mother, who prosecutors claim strangled the child to death in their home last week.

Francis was a caring and loving mother, according to her relatives and Singh, but she had been hospitalized at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center's psychiatric unit for a month earlier this year and was struggling with her mental illness.

Some people demanded increased mental health and social services for the family and the community in the next few days.

"She willingly sought therapy by committing herself. In my opinion, our system has let down this young woman," said Persaud.

The death of her daughter has led to murder charges against Cabello.

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center was contacted by NY1 for comment, but they have not yet heard back.
