Update State Police investigating an incident at Indian Lake central school

Law enforcement agencies secured Indian Lake Central School and conducted a thorough search of the premises. The investigation determined that there was no threat to the school and confirmed the incident was a swatting hoax.

School officials are establishing a reunification process and notifying parents of the incident.

On October 22, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., New York State Police responded to Indian Lake Central School for a report of shots fired. New York State Police and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

School officials confirmed to law enforcement that no shots had been fired.

Law enforcement personnel are actively searching and securing the school while investigating the incident. At this time, State Police believe the report may be a swatting incident. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
