Traffic stop in Chemung County leads to a weapons charge and multiple violations

The New York State Police in SP Horseheads report the arrest of Marc Alan Bundy, age 27, of Millmont, Pennsylvania, following a traffic stop on April 13, 2026, in the town of Elmira, Chemung County.

At approximately 8:34 a.m., a State Trooper conducting stationary traffic enforcement on Corning Road observed a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound without a front license plate, no valid inspection sticker, and the driver not wearing a seatbelt. A traffic stop was initiated as the vehicle turned into a nearby business.

During the stop, the Trooper observed a loaded handgun partially concealed under the center console. The firearm was secured, and the operator was identified as Bundy, who was found to have a suspended New York State driver’s license with multiple suspensions, as well as active warrants from the City of Elmira and the Village of Elmira Heights.

A check verified that Bundy did not possess a valid pistol permit and was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed no additional contraband.

Bundy was transported to SP Horseheads for processing. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded and assumed the investigation.

Bundy was charged with the following:

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C felony)

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd degree

Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Inspection Certificate

No Seatbelt (Driver)
