Theft crime is down compared to last year in NYC

It doesn't matter what the number says but decreasing means down so that's good news for NYC.

The NYPD CompStat year to date date from January 1, 2026 to February 1, 206 reported total thefts at 8,588 compared to 9,253 last year. That's down by 7.2% and it doesn't matter who was affected. So far 884 vehicles were stolen down by 6% from last year. The biggest one is retail thefts which was at 3,949 down by 16% despite this is a never ending issue. As for grand larceny, it's at 3,467 down by 3.3% and petit larceny at 8,172 down by 7.2%.

See when it's down, crime is down.

Local residents are advised to stay alert with their surroundings. Despite being a victim of a crime, it's the data so follow the science.
