Suspect wanted for police impersonation and assault

WANTED for POLICE IMPERSONATION ASSAULT: On Sunday 6/23/24, at approx 6:35 PM, inside the Whitehall Street – South Ferry subway station on the N/B “R” train platform, an unknown male wearing an NYPD Detective shield around his neck was unlawfully stopping commuters from entering the transit system and attempting to detain them while identifying himself as a police officer.

One of the individuals he attempted to stop, a 46-year-old male victim, tried to walk away from the male, at which point the male discharged a can of pepper spray to the back of the victim’s head. Anyone with info is asked to DM @NYPDTips, or call 800-577-TIPS.
