Suspect busted for weapon possession in Plainview

Second Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Connecticut man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 3:57 pm in Plainview. According to detectives, Highway Patrol officers observed a male operating a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Sunnyside Boulevard. The license plate was improperly displayed and the operator entered a 7-11 parking lot located at 160 Sunnyside Blvd. without signaling. The subject entered the store and when he exited the officer began to conduct an investigation regarding the motorcycle’s registration. The operator was uncooperative, refused to comply with the officer’s commands and attempted to get on the motorcycle to flee the scene. The officer grabbed the motorcycle to prevent the subject from leaving. The subject got off the motorcycle and fled northbound on Sunnyside Boulevard. He was observed dropping an item on the side of the road, which was a handgun. Isaac Cabanas, 25, of 332 Jefferson Avenue, New London, CT., continued north before being place under arrest. Defendant Cabanas is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Mineola.
