State Police seize multiple handguns and arrest three following Bethlehem traffic stop

On December 22, 2025, State Police assigned to the Troop G Community Stabilization Unit arrested Abdullahi N. Awayle, 27, of Burlington, VT, Abdihakim Dayo, 21, of Burlington, VT, and an 18-year-old each for:

Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, a class “C” felony

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, a class “D” felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, a class “A” misdemeanor

Awayle was also arrested for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

On December 22, 2025, at about 11:08 a.m. Troopers stopped a vehicle on the I-87 Thruway in Bethlehem for a traffic and vehicle law violation. The driver was identified as Awayle. The passengers were identified as Dayo and an 18-year-old. All individuals resided in Vermont. During the investigation and with the assistance of State Police K9 J, two illegally possessed loaded handguns and a controlled substance were discovered and seized from the vehicle.

All three were arrested at the scene and transported to SP Latham for processing. Awayle, Dayo, and the 18-year-old were arraigned at the Bethlehem Town Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
